Weekend Update

15 Jun 2008 09:18 pm

this weekend was city stages’ 20th anniversary and while the line-up was quite impressive i quickly realized why i do not go every year. hot, sticky frat boys. and not hot as in “hawt”, rather hot as in “would you please get the hell off me, you’re ax body spray deodorant stopped working nine hours ago”. (more…)

this weekend was off the chain as my mother would say. what? you’re mother doesn’t use ethnic slang? friday night kev and i went to see fresh ground comics, a stand-up comedy group from right here in birmingham. years of racism and blowing shit up will make anyone crazy enough to get up in front of a roomful of strangers and bitch about flavored lube. despite the hurricane force winds and flash flooding we ventured out to catch mike mccall and his merry band of emo rejects perform. i kid! all of the guys did really well.

5 Minutes
5 minutes before showtime and mike still doesn’t have his shit together.

dmoney turned 32 saturday and threw herself one kick ass party. i can’t remember the last time i had a keg at a party. of course i don’t, i was probably curled up in a fetal position around it’s empty barrel. and no, it is not a coincidence that we’re all wearing irreverent t-shirts. only 2 of us are actual douchebags.

I'm An Awesome Friend
dmoney models the earrings i gave her for her birthday. it’s a free trade product so the 100 year old tibetan lady who fashioned them, while hunched over in a 4×4 sweatbox, was compensated handsomely with a goat.

Lightning Farts
if i was a meteorologist i would constantly send out cloud fart weather warnings.

I'm Legally Changing My Name
that is juice in the cup. yummy, yummy hoppy juice.

At Parties In The South We Burn Shit
at parties in the South we burn shit. in a cauldron. dancing naked under the full moon is not required until your third visit.

Hot Pr0n
hot pr0n. need i say more?

I Can't Take You Serious Wearing That Shirt
rob in repose. that would make a great band name. a band that does falco covers.

all photos can be seen here. go there now! or i’ll turn you into a newt!

i’m already tired of 2008. after the miscarriage over the christmas holidays i was positive that 2008 was going to be nothing but a whole ton of awesome. i mean, surely life wouldn’t kick me in throat in the new year. certainly i was going to coast through the next couple of months while we waited until we could start trying for a baby again. oh silly girl.

this past week has been a lesson in patience. i’ve been down all week with a stomach virus that put me in the emergency room on thursday morning. i apparently passed out from dehydration and hit my head on the floor. they did a CT scan and though there was no concussion they did find an abnormality. they confirmed with a neurologist that i have what is called cerebellar tonsillar ectopia. go look it up if you’re interested, but basically it explains every problem i’ve had for a while. chronic headaches radiating from my back of my head, tension in my neck, fatigue, et al. they doctors at the ER referred me to a neurologist to confirm the diagnosis and to decide a course of action. i’m trying to stay optimistic. if it was life threatening then they would have admitted me, right? right.

so there you have it. i’m worn out. i am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

update
i forgot to add that this song is one of the things keeping me in a good mood and not putting me in a murderous rampage right now. good time to roll on.

Kings of Leon - King of the Rodeo

so yeah, it snowed. and the way the news stations were making it out we would all expect to die an icy death. 3/4″ of an inch does not a “blizzard” make. it does make some pretty photos though:

Greytracks
greyhound footprints down the back steps of our house

Tiny Icicles
two tiny icicles

and for some obligatory animal photos:

It Starts Sweetly
jack loves to clean brock’s ears

It All Ends Ugly
sadly, brock doesn’t love the grooming.

Look Into My Eyes
i can’t blame jack though. sometimes i just want to shove brock’s entire head in my mouth.

i don’t know how to write this. i’ve tried every way i know how and i end up deleting the whole post except for the words “fuck”, “hell”, and “exhausted”. sadly those are the only words to describe what is going on. instead of writing something altruistic, i’m going to indulge my depression, because damn it! this is my site.

the week before christmas i was in the 5th week of pregnancy; something that overjoyed me, scared me, and made me want to vomit at the thought of cheese. what?! i know! during the week i began spotting: first rice-grain size pink streaks and then brown quarter sized spots. i was assured by my OB that this was completely normal, but was asked to come in just to check everything out. i had an ultrasound and we saw the gestational sack but no baby. again, completely normal because you cannot see the heartbeat until 7 weeks or so. sigh. they did a bunch of blood work to check my levels and promised to call the next day to report. pins and needles, people!

on friday the nurse practitioner called and relayed the results. my levels were severely low and i would probably miscarry over the weekend. try to relax and have a good christmas. uh, okaaay. i was a mess. not only did i have this impending doom of losing the baby that kev and i had lovingly made we got to do it during christmas. i couldn’t imagine a worse time. i immediately went home to bawl and wallow.

christmas eve came and i began to miscarry. and it was awful. words can’t describe how terrible it was. physically, emotionally, spiritually. i wanted to jump off the roof or throw myself into on coming traffic. anything but go through this. kev was wonderful. he is the epitome of the doting husband.

here it is new year’s eve and i’m a little better. i still tear up when i talk about it, but overall i’m optimistic and hopeful. our families has been tremendous and supportive. they wanted this baby as much as we did.

i threw my back out on thursday by putting a 20 gazillion pound box on a shelf. rule of thumb: lift with the legs. and because i’m high on tylenol and ben-gay vapors here are some photos to make you smile. a dopey, drug-induced smile.

Autunm Wreath
my very sweet mother-in-law gave me this lovely autumn wreath. i love it, except when it smacks me in the face when i open the door.

Red All Over
can you tell i like red? the picture frames are made of heavy iron.

Monkey Butt
my friend rita gave me this monkey thing. i think it is supposed to be a soap dish but i think it is an ode to butt secks.

Cooper and Daddy
cooper and kev cuddle on the couch on sunday morning. gawd, i love these two.

Leary Lira
this dog never fails to amaze me. she goes through 300 different emotions in the span of an hour. it’s like living with a less hairy version of nancy grace.

Oh Right There
coopers gets scritches from daddy. i adore the look on her face.

it’s not very often that i get a compliment that makes me rejoice and do back flips. on friday night i have to say that i was rocking my hair do. kevin and i went to speakeasy to meet up with d-money. trey and karen were there (congrats, by the way you guys) and trey commented that i looked liked jenny lewis. if you don’t know who jenny lewis is here is a photo:
jenny lewis

mmm, sweet hot.
now granted, my hair is not red, nor as long and curly as jenny’s but i do have the bangs and seductive nerdiness.
that might be an oxymoron.

also on friday night we met up with the huttons and some old friends from high school at club south. nathan peek (of the nathan peek band fame) reprised our old college days by singing karaoke. good times.

fun things i did this weekend in no particular order:

  • heard a secret about myself. learned that my actions can be misconstrued to portray something very ugly.
  • got called out by my best friend. realized that i am a shitty friend and will now make a concerted effort to change that.
  • although i drank at a birthday party on saturday i found out my “limit” and promptly went home before i could reek havoc on the birmingham metro area.
  • went to a fairly new club called twist n’ shout. performed well by not killing every single asshat in the joint.
  • played with minnesota’s iPhone. found myself wanting.
  • recorded American Psycho, The Devil Wears Prada, and Fantastic Four on my dvr. watched all three atleast twice.

fun things that i will do this week:

  • see harry potter and the order of the phoenix at imax.
  • annual ob/gyn appointment. i promise not to make the technician uncomfortable by making galaga jokes.
  • attend Rock The Town Red at Bottletree to benefit Birmingham Aids Outreach

good times.

heading to the ATL tomorrow to visit my aunt. while there i will be be lying in the bottom of a closet trying to prove that yes, my family tree has more than three branches. seriously. apparently no one on my dad’s side of the family has drawn out our family tree. they were all too busy drinking and getting electrocuted. seriously seriously.

in honor of my singular drive to the big queasy (as the sweltering air conjures my stomach into a hateful fit of fire) i bring you my play list that i created entitled “Lost City of Atlanta”. yeah i know, not obscure enough.

for those of you playing the home version these songs were picked for their catchy guitar solo and/or for the fact that i can sing the words at the top of my lungs.
i’ll see most of you for the 4th of july. for those i won’t you’ll just have to pretend you’re hanging out with me. or not. i’m not much fun these days.
